Frequently Asked Questions About Commissioning Art Work
Hanging a beautiful painting in your home can illuminate the walls and revamp the space. Besides, if the artwork is specifically designed to suit your personality, it will have the power to brighten up your mood every time you enter the room.
However, when it comes to commissioning artwork, clients have many questions but often find answers difficult to come by.
Consequently, Vargas Reis wants to arm you with the most accurate information to help you understand the process. To do this, I’ve answered some of the most frequently asked questions about commissioning artwork.
1. How long does it take to commission an artwork?
Once we finalize the project and you approve the sketch, it takes one to three months to complete a piece, depending on the size.
2. I don’t know what I want. Can you help?
Absolutely, most of the collectors who commission an artwork don’t exactly know what they want. Therefore, I work with you to create your forever art.
3. Could you explain the commission process?
(a) I take photos of the space where the painting is expected to be hung. I use this to superimpose a draft of several ideas.
(b) We decide on the medium to be used in the image. (enamel, acrylic, or oil).
(c) I create a portfolio with ideas for your consideration.
(d) You select an idea, and we work on it till you are happy with the design
(e) I get to work!
4. Do I have to pay anything to start?
I take a small non-refundable fee to work on the portfolio of ideas. This fee goes towards the cost of the painting. Once you are satisfied with an idea on the final draft, I request a 50% deposit with the balance due on completion.
5. Can you create any painting genre?
I could work with any concept you may have, but the technique and composition should align with my painting style.
6. What is the ideal size for my painting?
I usually work with big surfaces, with most of my works being larger than 36x36 inches. I have also completed paintings as large as 7x8 feet. Keep in mind that enamel paints require larger sizes, while oil paintings can get completed in any size.
7. How much do you charge?
The price of the painting is calculated based on the size and complexity of the artwork. I will be happy to provide you with your painting’s cost at the beginning of the process.
